Many of you may have heard of "diskcore" (and tapecore too) and always wondered what it was and how you might be able to use it, or whether it was some uber-secret society that if you had to ask to join, then you weren't going to get in, or you needed a funny handshake to be invited. Not so.
When Tim Berners-Lee (before he was knighted) and an untold number of "geeks" were still playing around with HTTP, possibly using a Netscape browser that ran on OS/2 (I have no idea if Netscape ever ran on OS/2 but I know that I never got a BSOD with it !), one of the ways of getting information out was to use a mailing list. In fact, it might have all started on a VM machine - and I mean "real" VM, not these Johnny-come-latelys with their GUIs and fancy "stuff" ! The youngsters of today just will not know what PROFS meant.
Anyway, some resourceful folks many moons ago decided to create "diskcore" and "tapecore" mailing lists. And so a small community of IBMers and Business Partners was born.
