Redbooks publication IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.2: Installation and Configuration Guide published and includes figures of the new configurations possible with multiple tape library support. Clearly there are advantages to multi library support because you can archive more data and have physical separation of the archived data. When I first began working with the Spectrum Archive team my favorite image (see below) gave me the high level view that helped me understand how Spectrum Archive and Spectrum Scale work together. Once I understood the base value of how Spectrum Archive creates a very cost efficient storage tier within Spectrum Scale the newer images are much easier to understand. And I can understand the increased value. The figure below is a Spectrum Archive EE configuration shown with scaled-out capacity, multiple libraries, and redundant copies. This example spans two sites with two tape libraries, one Spectrum Scale Cluster and two Spectrum Archive EE Groups.
An improvement in our Spectrum Archive EE Redbooks publication is to show more configurations like this one to help our readers see how they may map to their own environments and workloads.
