Faster SANs are moving a step closer with the announcement by the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) in Las Vegas that they have finshed their work on the Fibre Channel Physical Interface - sixth generation (FC-PI-6) industry standard for specifying 32 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Fibre Channel. The next step is it to forward it to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for publication in the first quarter of 2014.
Although we cannot expect products immediately, best guess estimates suggest that in 2016 we will start to see them appear in the marketplace.
And, already being worked on is the 128 Gbps standard !
