In my previous entry
I have given few basic tips on managing your blogs. Lets explore more on this topic...#1 Have you noticed +Advanced Settings section while you are writing a blog?
Try this - Save your draft and Expand Advanced Settings Section. This is how it looked when I saved my draft of this entry.
Notice the Specify custom URL edit box
and the URL marked in red. This is auto generated by the tool and one can customize this url by editing it.
I chose managingyourblog_part2 as my preferred URL and the effect of which is
You can choose to Allow comments for specific number of days, By defaults comments are allowed for unlimited days.
You may be creating an entry on a Sunday and do not want your entries to get lost in other numerous entries which are pouring in on Monday. You can choose to delay the publish time. Choose Delay publishing the entry option.#2 Save as Draft option
If you are writing an entry and think need some more time to finish up
the work, you can save your piece by clicking "Save as Draft". You can view and edit the entry when you are ready to update. Open My Blog and click on Entries link. You can see all of your entries. You can see that Drafts are marked in pink.
You can modify the Title, custom URL and the content without having to delete and create a new entry.#3 Update published entries
In the above image, notice Published and Updated column. One of my entries MyDeveloperWorks - My Wishlists (Updated)
was created on 3rd Jul and was last updated today. Here is one more point to note. If you edit already published entry and click to Post to Blog, its considered as updating your existing entry.
Incase, while editing the published entry, you happen to save it as a draft and then chose to post , the Published date gets modified. In the above image you can see that it shows, My wishlist entry was created on Tuesday 14th Jul. While experimenting I had saved that entry and then posted. How ever, while I edited that entry today, I did Post to blog directly. I was also able to edit the title - Notice (updated) in my title. It wasn't the original title :)
Hope I am not confusing you :)#4 Filter entries option
Care to notice a side bar in the above image ? You can filter to see entries in various stages - Draft only, Published only. By default All entries are visible.
You can also sort by publish time and update time#5 Preview
Did you know you can preview your entry to see how it looks before you actually publish it? Click on the Preview button and experiment yourself !!!
