I came across this article tilted "Tech brings remote mountain data to scientists"
Simple but still a very novel and smart idea . While most of the climate monitoring station tend to only monitor climatic and weather conditions they probably do not include monitoring of mountain environments as one of the parameters which potentially can play a very vital role.
The effect of climatic changes over the mountain many a times tends to influence the level of destructive behavior the climate change can bring.
But this concept should go beyond mere ice covered mountains and even to hillocks located near areas prone to cyclones or hurricanes. I have heard of cyclones/ hurricanes became more destructive as some of the hillocks totally gave up and
Using sensors and actuators one should be even able to determine the strength of the soil ( of a hillock situated in middle of a sea) , its erosion conditions etc so that one will be able to detect how the hillock will behave in the upcoming cyclone and to what level will it add to the agony. This information will help us to be better prepared. Many such smart usage of sensors and actuators can help solve real life problem - where technology helps affects life and not mere stocks.
