Some impressive smart tech at Smartcamp Austin
Scott Laningham 100000GSNP Visits (1918)
Just finished the first of two days with IBM Smartcamp in Austin. The IBM Smartcamp Competition is sponsored by the IBM Global Entrepreneur group, and is a traveling competition visiting eight countries throughout this year. The World Finals will be held year-end.
The five finalists presented today in Austin to an experience-rich group of mentors -- Joshua Baer (Capital Factory), Randall Baker (PuraVida Ventures), Isaac Barchas (Austin Technology Incubator), Bob Bridge (InView Technology), Arie Brish (cxo360), Randall Crowder (Central Texas Angel Network), Robin Curle (RampCorp Women's Incubator), Rudy Garza (G-51), and others.
Of the finalists, two were focused specifically on the health care space. DxUpClose is bringing to market a microbial diagnostic which can identify bacteria, count microbes in a sample, and determine which antimicrobial is effective against the microbe in less than sixty seconds at the point of care. Waldo Health has developed and launched a Remote Patient Monitor (RPM) service that helps healthcare organizations meet rapidly evolving healthcare requirements. Tactical Information Systems is developing cloud-based biometric matching as a service. Stormpulse has created a solution to help a wide range of customers consider the impact of weather on a broad range of business decisions. And SecureWaters offers technology that monitors, detects, and identifies toxins in surface water.
We listened to 6-minute presentations from each today, who then went into mentoring sessions on how to take their individual pitches to an optimal level. Tomorrow, they pitch again with the new and improved results. We'll hear short keynotes from Jim Corgel, GM of ISV & Developer Relations at IBM, and Scott Case, co-founder of AOL and now Chairman of Startup America Partnership. Finally, the winner for Smartcamp Austin will be announced.
Follow it live on the IBM Software Livestream channel, starting at 3:30 CDT (-6 GMT)
