Rational Functional Tester - Failed to Enable the Browser (Internet explorer)

We may get the following error :
"Failed to enable the browser . The browser location is <Path to Internet Explorer>"
While trying to enable Internet Explorer from the "Configure ->Enable environment For Testing" wizard.
First of all the current user must have admin privileges in order to enable Internet explorer.
Some times even though we log in as admin we still get "Failed to enable the browser " error , and that is because sometimes we need to run an application explicity as Admin by choosing "Run As Administrator... " option.
While enabling IE , RFT registers a Browser Helper Object in the registry at location:
HKLM -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Explorer ->Browser Helper Objects
So make sure user has permission to the above registry. If a registry (for eg the one shown above) is corrupt it may not let us modify it.
Rarely but some in cases even though we do have admin rights and are able to create/modify the registry , we may get "Failed to enable the browser" if the above registry is corrupt . ( One can know the registry is corrupt by trying to edit /rename it and it throws error "Handle is invalid " or "permissions denied" even though the user is admin and does have permissions to the key ).
At this point I don't know what can be done to fix the registry except contacting the System Admin / IT Guy who might know how to fix the registry.
