Although it's not (yet) documented, we are considering IE 10 as supported for HTTP/HTTPS recording in RPT 8.5. During RPT 8.5 development and testing we used IE 10 extensively for recording on Windows 8 and did not observe any problems.
There are still some concerns regarding using IE 10 as the browser for web reporting. We have done limited testing with this and so far haven't seen any problems but are not yet ready to declare that it is supported.
RFT has an option for enabling Dynamic find during plyback.
This option can be found in
RFT eclipse IDE->Windows->Preferences
Functional Test->Playback->Dynamic Find Enablement
chechk the chckbox with name 'Enable "scripting find" if "scoring find" fails'
What does this option do?
If RFT fails finding an object during playback internally RFT uses find API for finding the desired test object.
This will help if there is any hierarchy change in the... [More]
Certain users have trouble opening the datapool file from RFT's Visual Studio IDE integration. The error message hints that there is no editor defined for files of type .rftdp. This happens most probably because of a missing dependency file - msvcp71.dll on the Windows system that this issue is seen on.
The msvcp71.dll is present by default on Windows XP, Windows Vista and on most Windows 7 machines within C:\Windows\system32. To find if this pre-requisite file is missing, use the Dependency Walker tool. More about this tool... [More]
The test object map lists the test objects in the application-under-test, in a hierarchy.
If the application-under-test changes, the object hierarchy might change.
During playback, Rational Functional Tester cannot find an object whose hierarchical position changed, and as a result, playback fails.
1.Use the dynamic find feature. When a search that is based on object recognition scoring (ScriptAssure) fails to find objects whose hierarchy has changed,
Recently in some customer scenarios we have observed application crash on first click during recording.
RFT recording needs some process memory and in some scenarios application memory/stack size could not increase and it causes crash.
On analysing we observed increasing application stack size RFT could record and playback.
Use the following command to increase the stack size of application:
editbin.exe /STACK:2097152 (application exe name)
(editbin.exe should reside under visual studio... [More]

Problem : A client wants to install IBM Rational Functional Tester 126.96.36.199 and ends up downloading package from Fix Central as pointed by http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24033175 and cannot proceed with installation as missed the prerequisites which is RFT 8.2.2
Cause of the concern - Client goes to RFT 188.8.131.52 installation page and finds that RFT 8.2.2 is the prerequisite. Then searches for RFT 8.2.2 installer and reaches http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24032696 which suggests an upgrade from previous... [More]
With Rational Functional Tester 8.2.2 (and possibly higher version) , if the Visual Studio 2010 integration , does not show "Functional Test Project.." under File->New , then the user can follow this article to fix the issue.
Problem A: A client is using Rational Functional Tester (RFT) v 8.2 with RQM 4.0 on Windows server 2008R2 system. On selecting Project Area in 'Configure Adapter' wizard, the adapter crashes/disappears.
Solution : As detailed at https://jazz.net/library/article/1109 , the version
of RFT compatible with RQM4.0 is RFT 8.2.2. or RFT 8.3. Upgrade of RFT to higher version resolves the issue.
ObjectNotFoundException is quite common exception that Rational Functional Tester [RFT] throws when it is not able to find the objects
It is also quite self explanatory , clearly indicating that the object being looked for was not found.
Why the object was not found could have multiple reasons like -
The object is actually not there.
The object is there but somehow the hierarchy of the object has changed and this will make the object inaccessible.
The object is there but some recognition properties... [More]

On a windows machine create a new shortcut as follows:
Right click on the desktop and select New ->Shortcut.
The location for the target of the shortcut should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\SDP\eclipse.exe" -product org.eclipse.platform.ide
Click Next , give shortcut a name and click Finish.
Double click on this shortcut to launch the application.
