The IBM Product and Service Framework (PSF) has been refreshed and was announced at the IBM Innovate 2012 event during the Incose session Monday evening. The Product and Services Framework defines use cases and solutions
specific to discrete manufacturing industries. The key themes for the refresh are the addition of new projects to the framework that include new software capabilities based on partner solutions as well as addition to the IBM portfolio , improving existing framework projects with enhanced capabilities designed to drive greater alignment with IBM's industry blueprints.
In December 2006, IBM launched the Product Development Integration Framework (PDIF), a precursor to the Product and Service Framework. PDIF focused on integrating design process for discrete manufacturers. As the framework involved it grew to include solutions that spanned the entire manufacturing process from design to operations and supply chain management, marketing, sales, service and aftermarket support. At the Smarter Industries Symposium in Barcelona in October 2010 IBM relaunched the framework under a new name Product and Service Framework. The announcement at Innovate this week reflects the continuing evolution of the framework
