Occasionally when working on the IBM VIO Servers for IBM POWER I get some errors, as they don't happen that often as the VIOS are rather static in their us I tend to forget what the problem relates to. So below are a number of errors that I've hit and had to do some research on to clarify what the problem is, along with updating this with any new ones I discover -
Virtual adapter Trunk Errors
When creating a new second shared network adapter I hit this message -
[padmin] /padmin $ mkvdev -sea ent3 -vadapter ent5 -default ent5 -defaultid 2
Virtual adapter ent5 is not trunk: it needs to be allowed to access external networks
Command did not complete.
To stop seeing this message you will need to update the trunk priority on the virtual adapter via the VIO server on the HMC -
Then run your command again, and all should be well.
Unable to Delete a iSeries Partition
Today when trying to clear up some older systems I got the following message after selecting the virtual machine then 'Operations -> Delete':
HSCL151B unable to delete partition when there a virtual terminal connection open.
HSCL0589 could not delete partition.
After trying to close the partition via the usual menu options and the rmvt command a reboot of the HMC seemed to be the only way clear the issue.
