On Windows, pay attention on what DB2 product you’ll install!

Recently I had to build another DB2 server on Windows, and as done many times before, on “DB2 Setup Launchpad” (first screen of installer), section “Install a product”, I just hit the first “Install new” button I saw, without paying much attention to it – as it always guided me through DB2 ESE (Enterprise Server Edition) install.
You might be asking yourself – then what did Norberto do wrong? First “Install new” button should install DB2 ESE! Correct? Answer, when using fix pack 4 or newer, is NO!
Then you ask me “Why that, DB2 AESE shouldn’t be just a DB2 ESE with some additional turbo features (so it should certainly have at least the same functionality)?
Why? Well, if money isn’t your problem, and/or you plan to use the new Advanced functionality, that’s really fine, no issues at all.
Yes, you’ll have a lot of work to do then (as I had).
So here’s goes my advice for those who need to build DB2 servers on Windows: from now on, pay (more) attention before you click!
P.S.: If you find a smarter way of applying an ESE license over an AESE install, please let me know.
