It's that time of the year again - Innovate - IBM's Technical Summit - is going to be going on week of June 3, 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
I am excited to share that we will once again be hosting a Super Women's Group networking receptionto enable networking and mingling for IBMers, customers, and BPs. This year, we will also be hosting a panel discussion of women executives from IBM, 2 IBM clients, and an IBM business partner.
The theme of this panel discussion is "Staying Ahead in your Career" and will focus on issues ranging from how to take risks in your career to the importance of building strong relationships to ensuring you have a seat at the "big" table. I'm delighted that April Slovensky from Deloitte Consulting LLP has agreed to be my guest on this panel. April leads Deloitte Global's Methods & Tools organization which focuses on enabling client service professionals to deliver client solutions in an effective manner. April has served as a leader of Deloitte’s Women’s Initiative (WIN) - delivering programs aimed at developing and retaining women. April manages to combine a successful career with her family life and many outside interests. I can't wait to hear how she does it all!
I hope you can join me and my colleagues for these exciting events. Here's a link with details for both the panel discussion and reception as well as how to RSVP:
Unable to attend or want to pose some questions? Please feel free to comment on this post. I will post a summary of the event and some of the tidbits I gleaned from the panelists after the event. Hope to see you there.

If you're looking for a complete look at everything that's happening in social media at Innovate 2011 this week, let this blog post be your guide. If you're the type who prefers the Cliff Notes basics, here you go:
The deadline for submitting your abstract to speak at Innovate 2011 has been extended to January 14, 2011!
And here are 5 tips to get your paper accepted:
Measurable results - There is a big difference between saying “This worked for us” and “We achieved a 35% Return on Investment”. Measurable results are a great way to prove the effectiveness of your strategies to your audience.
Real Life Examples - There is no substitute for experience. Audiences love to hear directly from people who have implemented winning strategies. If you’re an IBMer or an IBM Business Partner, team up with a client to bring your story to life. If you’re a client, dedicate some of your time to letting your audience know how things really worked, or didn’t!
No Spam - Infomercials are not welcome. Audiences want to learn how to be successful; if that includes a mention of a specific product or service, then great. If that focuses solely on a given product or service, then audiences will tune out. If you came to advertise, you should participate in our solution center.
See the Big Picture - Software delivery is a team sport. And while your presentation may focus on a specific aspect of software delivery, it likely has impacts on other areas of, or individuals within, your organization. Don’t forget about those impacts, tell us how you integrated and collaborated with other tools, areas or individuals. We want to understand the full impact of your strategies.
Speak to Your Industry - Sometimes your successful strategies will be dependent on circumstances unique to your organization. Consider generalizing your guidance so that it will apply to others in similar industries or more generic situations.
Speeding up Schema development often requires that two or more
designers work on one Schema. The article describes proven Best
Practices to help you manage multiple developers working on your
ClearQuest Schema at the same time.

I hope you’ll come by to meet our talented Support Engineers and Management team.

The fourth day of the Innovate conference is also our Board of Advisors meeting.
When I first joined Rational, this was one thing that really impressed me. While I was familiar and had led many customer advisory boards before, I was surprised in a positive way to recognize how much Rational and clients both invest into this. We are serious about this here! There are pre-meetings and homework. Our Board of Advisors members gather input from their organizations on strategic needs and trends ahead of time and help Rational validate our investment focus and priorities. I find the conversations direct, open and very focused. Beyond Board of Advisors meetings, I see the clients more devoted strategic partners with IBM. What a great story!
This year we get to welcome about 30 Rational Board of Advisors members and special guests joining us for a deep discussion covering Rational’s strategic focus, system-specific tactics, DevOps and many other key topics. Thank you board members for being such devoted advisor and advocates of IBM Rational!
Welcome to Orlando! Now that we are all arriving here at Voice/Innovate I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is John Banks-Binici, and I'm the new Director of Rational WW Client Success Delivery. I report directly to Wendy Toh Vice President of Rational Client Success. Many of you had a personal and direct relationship with my predecessor, Chris Flynn, over the many years he held this position at Rational Support. I too look forward to building a partnership with all of you to make sure we at Rational are doing all the things you need us to be doing to pro-actively ensure your success with our products and solutions.
I'm very excited about this year's Innovate sessions, especially those presented by our own Rational Client Support teams. We have over 4,000 attendees this year, with 470+ breakout sessions and workshops, 210 client presentations, 135 business partner presentations, and a cutting edge Technology Expo with over 60+ business partner sponsors as well as IBM offerings.
I hope you look forward as much as I do, to this truly unique opportunity to share with each other our successes, our challenges and our plans going forward. If you'd like to meet with me please reach out via your IBM sales account representative and schedule an executive 1x1.
