Have you had a chance to check out the new 4.0.4 release of the IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) products (Rational Quality Manager, Rational Requirements Composer, Rational Team Concert)? This new release delivers new features and enhancements such as the following and more:
Asset management, broadly defined, refers to any system that monitors and maintains things of value to an entity or group. It may apply to both tangible assets such as buildings, and to intangible concepts such as intellectual property and goodwill.
Know where your assets are....
IBM Rational Asset Manager is a collaborative environment for creating and governing software assets. A definitive library management system where you catalog, organize, use, reuse, manage, and report on any type of software, technology, or business asset.
A collaborative software development asset management solution, IBM Rational Asset Manager software enables organizations to identify, manage and govern the design, development and consumption of software assets, including services as part of a service-oriented architecture (SOA) initiative. The software helps IT organizations deliver innovative IT solutions while controlling costs, reducing application backlogs and improving business flexibility and responsiveness by facilitating software asset reuse.
Evaluate Rational Asset Manager now! http
Purchasers of IBM Rational Asset manager can choose among three types of product licenses: an Authorized User license, an Authorized User Fixed Term License (FTL) and a Floating license. The best choice for your organization depends upon how many people will use the product, how often they will require access. Lets understand the concepts of keys ( licenses ) behind this dynamic software.
Types of RAM (Rational Asset Manager ) Licenses:
Licensing Model for Standard Edition:
Licensing Model for Enterprise Edition :
Addresses different usage patterns
→ Administrators assign users to AU licenses: Collaborator or Publisher.
→ SE licenses cannot be used in an EE servers.
→ Collaborator license only allows search, download and comment on assets.
→ Audit report can be generated to show license usage.
→ Floating license is consumed by users not assigned an AU license.
→ Collaborator license is consumed initially until a publisher feature is invoked then license consumption switches to publisher.
→ 30 minutes of inactivity or logging out releases the license (Floating).
→ Programmatic access consumes a license → Concurrent programmatic access consumes multiple licenses equal to the number of concurrent programmatic access.
→ When a user searches and browses without authenticating then no floating license is used,
→ When an anonymous user displays a public asset details, then an available collaborator floating license is checked out,
→ When an authenticated user displays an asset, then a collaborator licence is checked out, unless you already have a publisher license from a previous action,
→ When an authenticated user modifies or submits an asset, then a publisher license is checked out ( and if a collaborator license was checked out, then it is check in )
→ When an authenticated user logs out, then the license is returned, for either collaborator or publisher, unless the user had other sessions,
For EE (Enterprise Edition) : each authorized user license is of one access type -> collaborator or Publisher
For SE (Standard Edition) : there is only one license type,
If the authorized user license is of type Collaborator, and the user attempts to modify or submit an asset, then an available Publisher license will be checked out.
Version 7.5 ( RAM ) includes the following enhancements and features:
Server licenses: Rational Asset Manager Enterprise Edition no longer requires the purchase of a server license, providing more flexibility in the deployment of clusters and stand-alone servers
Token licenses: Token licenses are now available. You can reduce deployment costs by sharing Token licenses across one or more Rational products.
How to reconcile the different editions & license types?

Let's understand the concept of Telelogic based products licensing concepts.

Understanding of "TELELOGIC_ LICENSE_FILE variable":

Telelogic applications that use FLEXnet rely on the environment settings that FLEXnet uses to find licenses. The applications search for license servers and license files in the following order:
License Value Description:
Node-locked license-file-name The full path to the license file on your computer.
User based feature:
A user-based license is tied to one specific user. This is compared to a floating license which anyone can use. A license Feature for a user-based license is recognized by the attribute USER_BASED on the FEATURE/INCREMENT line. The user who can obtain a user-based license are specified in the FLEXnet options file for the license server.

The users must be defined in a separate configuration file. The configuration file must be explicitly set in the license file
DAEMON telelogic "C:\Program File
The configuration file must list the users for the user based feature
The version number from the configuration file must match the version number from the license file (see in bold)
For the same feature both user based and floating features can be present. The user based should be listed first in the license file.
