SO cool. Here is Byron Garcia's story, in his own words:
"Back in 2002, I was looking for a vehicle with superb gas mileage and I found the Golf TDI. I read all about it, researched mileage, and was mightily impressed with the mileage these little cars could achieve (45+MPG!)
Some time later, I found out about a fringe group of people that were running diesel-fueled cars with vegetable oil. I attended a workshop to convert a diesel-powered VW Rabbit and then decided to take the plunge and do it myself. Since I knew that this would most definitely void my warranty, I waited until the warranty ran out and in 2007, I ordered my kit and installed in June of that year.I have been running my car on veggie oil and diesel since and my biggest regret is not having done it sooner. The filtering / processing of grease has been a learning process but by now I have the process worked out."
- Kits cost less than $2000
- Fuel is straight vegetable oil: new or used. Used vegetable oil = FREE fuel. Byron gets his used vegetable oil from various sources, including the IBM MassLab cafeteria.
- Cleaner emissions, with the fuel economy of diesel, without the high cost of diesel.
What's not to love?
