CLM-SAP integration to prepare Server Side for SAML authentication
SAML is the authentication mechanism that is required for the exchange of data between SAP and the Rational Connector. It’s like two people exchanging keys to each other’s houses. Without the address of the other person’s house, the key can’t be used. Steps to configure the Server Side for SAML authentication: Log on to the IBM Rational Connector. Click on Manage SAML Certificates. Update SAML issuer name. Export the certificate from the Rational Connector. This will generate a... [More]

Should DOORS Web Access be installed on the same machine as the DOORS Database Server?
I most commonly see DOORS Web Access (DWA) installed on its own server and I prefer this for two reasons: DWA is resource heavy. It wants RAM and CPU. The DOORS Database server is not resource hungry and can run on an old server with as little as 2GB of RAM. If you add DWA to such a server, the server will have to be upgraded. Upgrading DWA impacts all DOORS users and the risk is greater than if DWA was on a dedicated server. Upgrading DWA is almost certainly going to require the database server to be restarted. There... Insight on log mechanism implemented in Rational License key server Administration and Reporting tool(ART) 8.1.4.x
In order to generate real time reports in ART tool, you need consistent and accurate data of License server logs. It is the log file that record license checkout,check-in,denial and other critical data used to generate reports in ART tool.Prior to RLKS 8142, each time when you restart License server service, it overwrite existing content of log(lmgrd) file with new data. Seeing loss of critical log data, a new log mechanism was developed and implemented in RLKS ART 8.1.4.2. Let me give you a brief high level overview of ART tool before we dive... [More]

Helpful commands to check if the Ubuntu version installed is a server or desktop setup
Sometimes in our days as technical support we find the need to validate what type of OS install is on a machine as a way to identify the environment in which a product may be encountering difficulties. To help with that discovery, here are two commands we have found to check if an Ubuntu OS install is a server version or desktop setup: Command 1: root@ubuntu:/etc# dpkg -l ubuntu-desktop Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold |... IBM CLM using Websphere Application Server and configuration files- a quick reference
IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) products use either IBM Websphere Application Server ( WAS ) or Apache Tomcat as an application server. While using IBM WAS as an application server, there might be a need to understand certain artifacts here. This helps in understanding the internal behavior and identifying the components in IBM WAS. IBM WAS stores its configuration to set of XML files. When you use the Administrative console to configure IBM WebSphere, certain XML files are updated internally. Here are the... [More]

IBM Rational Jazz token license configuration on Jazz team server
IBM Rational Jazz token license configuration on Jazz team server Token based licensing is an option, along with floating and authorized user licensing, within the Rational portfolio. Technically, the basis of token licensing is on the traditional floating license mechanism and process. However, when it comes to how the license check out (consumption) works, it has a different behavior. In a token environment, each product consumes a predefined token value, not a predefined quantity as it does in a traditional floating licensing... [More]

Deploying Rational License servers in mixed protocol environments ( Ipv4 / Ipv6 )
For a Rational License server ( version v 8.1.2 or above ) to work properly using IPv6 addresses, all systems in an enterprise (including the network hardware and software) must be configured properly to support communication using IPv6 addresses. Before testing or deploying a Rational Common Licensing-supported or -based application that supports IPv6 or IPv4/IPv6 dual communication, make sure that all systems on the network can communicate successfully. If the license server will run under any of the following operating systems, it can... [More]
