While working with Rational Functional Tester (RFT) on Firefox browsers, if enablement test failures are observed, then I follow the below steps to resolve them. These can be checked to avoid enablement issues.
1 Launch RFT as Administrator.
2 Make sure same version of JRE is enabled in RFT and the Firefox browser.
Refer the links on how to enable JRE and browser in RFT http
3 Launch the Java Control Panel from Control panel and verify the Java version
4 The version should be the same which is enabled in RFT and browser . If that is not the case, then Add the correct version and enable it.
5 If Security Level under Security Tab is set to Very High or High , then set to Medium or low
6 Under the Advanced tab, make sure the settings are as below:
Console can be hidden later , but enabling it will help to ensure that correct version of JRE is associated with the browser (remember that there could be multiple JRE associated with the browser). Disable next-Generation Plug-in unless it is compulsory.

As a prerequisite, IBM Rational Functional Tester (RFT) and the Application Under Test (AUT) should be configured on the same machine. The RFT playback process performs the actions recorded on the AUT which required the AUT to be opened. At the same instance no other actions should be performed in that machine.

In a scenario where more than one Html.Table controls are present in a web page and the recognition properties of the table controls are not enough to distinguish them individually, then the best possible method to capture the table controls are to capture the parent control first and then retrieve these table controls as a child of the parent, provided the parent control has unique recognition property values.
While capturing the table control using the below code snippet, Rational Functional Tester (RFT) may throw the following error message:
This is because, getChildren() can retrieve all the mappable and non-mappable controls of a parent. If there are any other non-mappable controls present in between the html.DIV and Html.TABLE that can also be retrieved by getChildren().

Rational Test Workbench Licensing Overview
Now that Big Blue has worn a Green Hat and the products from Green Hat are now rolled into IBM's Rational division, let's take a deeper dive into the world of licensing concepts for a new origin product called Rational Test Workbench (RTW).
RTW is a desktop solution that combines Rational’s automation capability for functional, performance and integration testing which is a great collaborative platform.
Before we roll out the red carpet for RTW licensing let us know the inclusions of the software family:
IBM Rational Integration Tester is a scripting-free environment for developing tests for SOA messaging and business process integration projects. Tests can be built by recording existing system behaviors or from requirements, by entering the data to send and the data that is expected in return. You can also create virtual services to remove test dependencies and enable earlier testing. Virtual services can be deployed by Rational Test Virtualization Server to provide on-demand virtualized test environments that can support all phases of the test development lifecycle.
IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack contains technology-specific components used by Rational Integration Tester for recording SOA message conversations, HTTP(S) and JDBC traffic, and for monitoring middleware systems under test with minimal reconfiguration of client applications.
IBM Rational Test Control Panel is a server-based web application providing a central repository for virtualized services. The Rational Test Control Panel allows you to use virtual services published with Rational Integration Tester to create, share, and deploy virtualized test environments in Rational Test Virtualization Server.
IBM Rational Performance Tester is a scripting-free environment for automating load and scalability testing of web, ERP, and server-based software applications. Rational Performance Tester provides rich and customizable reporting to help you identify the presence and cause of system bottlenecks. Rational Performance Tester integrates with the Rational Performance Test Server or Rational Virtualization Test Server to create large scale, multi-user workloads so that you can validate scalability and SLAs for your critical business applications before you deploy to production.
IBM Rational Functional Tester is an object-driven automated functional testing solution for Windows, Java, Web 2.0 and other application environments. Storyboard testing combines natural language test narrative with visual editing through application screen shots to accelerate the creation of functional tests. A variety of wizards further simplify the creation of data-driven tests that are resilient to changes in the application UI.
All the flavors are fruitful aren't they? I'm sure, they are!
Ok. Now that we know the inclusions, let’s unfold the red carpet for the RTW license keys.
RTW has 2 types of license available:-
1. Authorized License
2. Floating License
As already mentioned, RTW license is a family name for a bundle of 4 licenses. The license inclusions are:
· IBM Rational Integration Tester
· IBM Rational Performance Tester
· IBM Rational Functional Tester
· IBM Rational Performance Tester PVU component
Wow! The above mentioned does not include IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack and IBM Rational Test Control Panel licenses as it is a part of software bundle, if you have noticed.
You got it right! IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack and IBM Rational Test Control Panel do not require a license. Both IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack and IBM Rational Test Control Panel work as an add-on for Rational Integration Tester.
IBM Rational Performance Tester PVU license component works only in conjunction with Rational Performance Test Server (RPTS) / Rational Test Virtualization Server (RTVS) based RPT Agents.
This enables RPT not to attempt, check for protocol licenses for Siebel, SAP, Citrix, and SOA.

I love wandering the interwebs and discovering great knowledge sharing out in the wild.
I found a great example that is just too good to share, and so here I am, sharing it with you.
On the LinkedIn IBM Rational Functional Tester Network, someone posted a discussion thread expressing a desire to learn Rational Functional Tester... and the answers came pouring in!
My favorite response was from one of our support engineers, and he kindly gave me permission to share here:
Download Trial version of IBM RFT from the link below :What are your favorite Rational Functional Tester learning resources?

You should refer RFT Information Center from the link below , it is a good way to start off with RFT , it has few online videos and tutorials, updates for different versions of RFT. http
Hat tip to Nanesh Bhamkar for the RFT learning resources.
