Purchasers of IBM Rational Asset manager can choose among three types of product licenses: an Authorized User license, an Authorized User Fixed Term License (FTL) and a Floating license. The best choice for your organization depends upon how many people will use the product, how often they will require access. Lets understand the concepts of keys ( licenses ) behind this dynamic software.
Types of RAM (Rational Asset Manager ) Licenses:
Licensing Model for Standard Edition:
Licensing Model for Enterprise Edition :
Addresses different usage patterns
→ Administrators assign users to AU licenses: Collaborator or Publisher.
→ SE licenses cannot be used in an EE servers.
→ Collaborator license only allows search, download and comment on assets.
→ Audit report can be generated to show license usage.
→ Floating license is consumed by users not assigned an AU license.
→ Collaborator license is consumed initially until a publisher feature is invoked then license consumption switches to publisher.
→ 30 minutes of inactivity or logging out releases the license (Floating).
→ Programmatic access consumes a license → Concurrent programmatic access consumes multiple licenses equal to the number of concurrent programmatic access.
→ When a user searches and browses without authenticating then no floating license is used,
→ When an anonymous user displays a public asset details, then an available collaborator floating license is checked out,
→ When an authenticated user displays an asset, then a collaborator licence is checked out, unless you already have a publisher license from a previous action,
→ When an authenticated user modifies or submits an asset, then a publisher license is checked out ( and if a collaborator license was checked out, then it is check in )
→ When an authenticated user logs out, then the license is returned, for either collaborator or publisher, unless the user had other sessions,
For EE (Enterprise Edition) : each authorized user license is of one access type -> collaborator or Publisher
For SE (Standard Edition) : there is only one license type,
If the authorized user license is of type Collaborator, and the user attempts to modify or submit an asset, then an available Publisher license will be checked out.
Version 7.5 ( RAM ) includes the following enhancements and features:
Server licenses: Rational Asset Manager Enterprise Edition no longer requires the purchase of a server license, providing more flexibility in the deployment of clusters and stand-alone servers
Token licenses: Token licenses are now available. You can reduce deployment costs by sharing Token licenses across one or more Rational products.
