Here's an article which may have flown under your radar if you only watch developerWorks Rational. This one comes to you from the developerWorks IBM i Technical Library and covers some great technical details covering database modernization from DDS to SQL with Rational Open Access: RPG Edition:
Moving from a DDS to SQL database on DB2 for i can be accomplished without changing a single line of program code or recompiling a program. Converting a program to use advanced SQL techniques involved extensive program modifications or total rewrites, until now. With the addition of Rational Open Access: RPG Edition, advanced SQL coding techniques can be utilized by adding as little as 1 line of code to an existing RPG program. In this article I will describe how to use Rational Open Access: RPG Edition to take advantage of advanced data centric programming techniques only available via SQL programming.
