TheOnDemandDemoGuy provides a short introduction on using IBM®Rational® Team Concert for complex systems and software development. It takes you through a scenario that uses several IBM Rational products to show how process controls can be enacted through rule based process guidance. The demo starts in the Rational DOORS requirements database where integration is used with Rational Team Concert to create an implementation request for some work to be performed in an IBM Rational Rhapsody model. It then steps through a work flow using the features of Rational Team Concert to manage both the changes to the model and a formal review process enacted on the project.

If you're an administrator for a Rational Synergy/Change installation that uses Informix and you haven't seen this technote: "Increase IBM Informix Dynamic Server 11.5 STACKSIZE parameter to prevent Informix crashes", then we STRONGLY suggest that you give it a read and implement the setting change it suggests.
Under certain circumstances, the default STACKSIZE for the Informix server is too small and can possibly lead to a stack overflow condition, which can bring the server offline. While the server can usually be brought back online without incident, in some cases it cannot and the server needs to be re-created from backups.
The tech note above suggests increasing STACKSIZE and restarting the Informix server to pro-actively prevent the stack overflow issue. If you're an admin for Rational Synergy or Rational Change, and use Informix as your back-end database, we highly encourage you to implement the changes addressed in this technote.

Rational Support was very busy at Innovate 2011 this week! Lots of great conversations and sessions - Take a look back at this week's blog posts from Notes from Rational Support and our friends at IBM Electronic Support for all the details!
Of course Innovate wasn't JUST for the attendees! If you weren't able to make it out to Orlando this year, you can still reap some fabulous benefits from the conference through our blog posts, but especially through the IBM Rational Livestream feeds for the conference! Take some time and check out all the great keynote presentations we recorded and hosted just for you! I think you'll find some fabulously useful information there!

We've been heavily promoting this community at IBM Innovate 2011, and now you get to hear about it too! Here's some quick highlights of the various aspects of this new community:
Like any community, both IBMers and clients get out of it what they put in. In the Rational community, we provide the added benefit of pulling all Rational technical content in real time and presenting it in consumable chunks through the community landing page.
And here is even MORE detail about the information sources for those who are interested! This community delivers real time aggregations of content from the following information sources:
Of course, this is not an all inclusive list of all information sources. Jump on over, log in, join the community, and check out all it has to offer! We think you'll find the Rational Community is a fantastic new place to find information and collaborate with colleagues from around the world to share best practices, solutions, and insights!

We are thrilled to announce that we've just hit a major milestone .... we've recently logged 1 million visits to Notes from Rational Support! Yes, ONE MILLION VISITS!
Started in early 2009 as a part of an experiment in social business and proactive support, it appears that Notes from Rational Support has proven to be a valuable resource. Our traffic metrics continue to show steady growth in visits, views, unique visitors, and new visitors, and that makes us VERY happy.
So, in honor of this milestone, we'd like to thank the folks who made it possible (and fret not, this will be shorter than an Academy Award acceptance speech):
And let's keep going! Our next goal is to move from the 7th most visited blog on developerWorks to the top 5 ... maybe this year?
From all of us here at Notes from Rational Support, THANK YOU!

The On-Demand Demo Guy has been busy!
This demonstration provides an overview of Rational Rhapsody Design Manager's capabilities to help teams collaborate, share, review and manage their Rational Rhapsody system engineering or embedded software design information within the overall product lifecycle. It shows how design information can be centrally located and accessed using a web client by the extended team or by a Rational Rhapsody client for system engineers and developers using Rational Rhapsody. A central location enables searching across design and lifecycle information to help locate information faster and assists in keeping the entire team informed of the current status of the design. The demonstration includes an overview on how with Rational Rhapsody Design Manager you can conduct design reviews that allow stakeholders to provide comments and visual mark-ups linked to the designs. Also demonstrated is how you can trace from designs to other lifecycle artifacts using Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) based linking and visualize relationships between designs and lifecycle artifacts through a dependency relationship diagram.

When you contact our support team for help resolving Rational product issues, we often we request additional troubleshooting information from your problem system. For some products, obtaining this information is easy to do, but often the info or particular files are not that easily located. On occasion, additional logs are requested based on new information found or it may have simply been missed.
What can we do to make it easier?
For select products, we've enabled an automated data gathering tool called IBM Support Assistant Lite (ISALite for short). This tool will gather appropriate troubleshooting information for a particular product. This will help reduce the amount of back and forth communications between you and support, and help our support team get to the core of the problem more effectively and efficiently.
Our newest ISALite product additions are:
Are you new to ISA or ISALite? Here's some great resources to help you out:
Go on, give it a try and let us know what you think!
