Please join us tomorrow, September 6th, 2011, at 3pm IST as the Bangalore Rational Support Team leads a discussion around
"RPT demo on custom coding and mitigating common recording and playback errors"
Description: RPT load testing activities primarily involves Recording, Playback of scripts, Resource Monitoring which are dependent on the host / agent environment to work effectively. Many of the errors encountered during Recording, Playback or scripting in general can be root caused to the environment (host, port availability, proxy setup, etc).
The deliverable out of this open-mic session is to understand the reason behind a few common Recording and Playback errors encountered in RPT and best practices to mitigate and hence prevent them. We will also see through a quick demo on various protocols the tool supports along with a sneak peak into the custom coding which can be a saviour in times of un-expected playback results!

ALM a Modern Day Imperative - A Panel Discussion
Webcast date & time: Wednesday, Aug 31, 2011, 3:00 PM ET USA
The tooling for Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) has evolved over the years, today it is essential for organizations to competitively build systems and adapt to meet the changes in business demand. The integrated development environment (IDE) has become the collaborative development environment (CDE) and continues to become more powerful each year. These actionable platforms for managing and conducting development are providing real-time intelligence for improved organizational agility
Come hear from our panel, Grady Booch, Carolyn Pampino, and Ken Creager, as they discuss how ALM is evolving and why it is becoming an imperative in today's modern world.
Grady Booch is recognized internationally for his innovative work in software architecture, software engineering, and collaborative development environments.
Carolyn Pampino is the Program Director for Strategic Offerings focused on IT Software. Ken Creager is a software professional with more than 25 years of experience.
What is OSLC and why should you care about it?
Webcast date & time: Tuesday, Sep 13, 2011 11:00 AM, ET USA
You or your organization probably uses multiple tools throughout the software and/or systems engineering lifecycle. You are probably also trying to improve collaboration across roles and teams in that lifecycle. But you're challenged because the tools don't interoperate in a way that makes collaboration smooth and efficient. And when you upgrade a tool, integrations often break. This webcast will discuss these challenges and how Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is a better way to address them. We'll look at what makes OSLC different from previous industry attempts at interoperability, how OSLC works, who's involved in the OSLC community, and most importantly, how OSLC benefits you as a user, administrator or recommender of tools.

Abstract from the paper's introduction section:
This whitepaper is designed as a supplement to the Build Forge Online Help Documentation. This document should not be seen as a replacement for the Online Help Manual. Build Forge Administrators and Release Engineering teams should review this document before making any changes to a new or existing environment. The information supplied is not based on IBM recommendations. This white paper is intended to assist in creating scalable and manageable Build Forge environments. The paper is broken down into individual components due to certain software requirements. Build Forge out of the box requires: Database backend, Java Application Server (Tomcat), Web Server (Apache with PHP), and Precompiled Perl Executables (Perl Engine). Each component has its own unique options when considering management and scalability.
After reviewing this whitepaper, apply changes to a test environment before releasing in production. Some of the topics discussed in this paper result in data removal and aggressive purging. Please note that these topics should be discussed prior to implementation.

Are you ever confused by some acronyms or IBM-isms which you may come across on the web, in support calls, or discussions with colleagues? Here's a tip I stumbled upon which has helped me substantially in my day-to-day business which I am now sharing with you in the hopes you'll find it helpful as well!
This post explains the IBM V.R.M.F - Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) terminology used by Rational products. V.R.M.F is the product release numbering format that is being implemented throughout the IBM and the Rational product lines.
IBM is using a standard version format for MDV. The product numbering is based on the IBM Version, Release, Modification and Fix Level structure within the V.R.M.F format.
The following table provides some details of the individual version elements. Note: Although not all of the version elements are publicly available, they are all fully supported:
Wondering about all the document definitions as well? Check out the IBM Software Support Document Definitions page for brief, glossary style definitions of all the various document types we as IBM may produce.
And lastly, how about a link to our Site Assistance page... here you can find a number of resources to help with things like navigation, search, filtering, managing support portal modules, managing product lists, and much more!

In case you missed it last week, here's your next quick nudge to go check out IBM eSupport's blog post about Software compatibility reports. It seems that this may be one of our best kept secrets around here, and a secret which we don't really want to keep!
The Software Product Compatibility Reports site is an innovative tool, launched earlier in 2011, designed to allow YOU, IBM clients, to easily generate custom reports about compatible IBM software combinations, product end-of-service dates and product translations.
This is a great tool for figuring out what products are compatible with others and how your particular implementations may need to be designed to ensure your success. See? This isn't something we want to keep secret here! So head over to the eSupport blog and read more about these reports, then head on over to the Software Product Compatibility Reports site's home page and see what these reports can do for you!
We think you'll find these are an invaluable resource to add to your stable of IBM knowledge and solutions! So once you've seen the value, go on and share the knowledge with your colleagues and friends who many be in need of these as well.
