This is my first blog entry about making software faster and I thought I'd talk a bit about what I plan to cover in this blog.
My background is in compilers, debuggers, profilers on IBM big servers (POWER and System z is where I've spent the most time). I've spent my career on building tools that most people would think of as really low level, and I have to say I get a real kick out of looking at instruction sequences and how to shave a cycle here and there. So - I'll occasionally delve into low-level geeky stuff, since I find that really interesting, but I also want to make this blog relevant to people that just want their application to run faster.
My thoughts are to have the first few entries be around what tools people can use on IBM servers, and how to get the most out of them, along with some examples of how to actually use the tools
