Today's mobile technologies offer excellent capabilities to help consumers engage with brands while providing superior consumer experience and maximized engagement (especially given the “always connected” nature of mobile platforms). IBM Mobile Web Push technology enables website providers and marketers to notify and potentially influence website visitors dynamically. Its function can be based on events generated by website visitor actions or on contextual information such as the user’s location or weather.
The target devices for Mobile Web Push can be mobile phones, tablets or desktop platforms, but in each case the website provider needs to engage mobile consumers differently. Consumers visiting a website using a mobile phone or tablet are more likely to abandon the website if the content is not personalized, timely, relevant, targeted and actionable. (As we know, consumers may be browsing the website while crossing a busy intersection or traveling on a metro—they have more compelling things to act on than browsing a website that engages them in an impersonal, intrusive or distracting manner.)
For website providers, the challenges of engaging today’s consumers are many. Consumers now have higher expectations; in particular, they want seamless and rich integration, personalization and customization of offerings matching their preferences. They also want relevant, timely and actionable alerts, notifications and information.
