When it comes to transforming the face of business through consumer engagement, mobile is the hot topic on every chief marketing officer’s lips. The frustration at having to wait for new ideas to be delivered is now fading given the pace at which technology can turn concept into reality. I don’t mean simply converting a web page into a mobile app. I’m talking about developing new mobile apps that reach into the heart of core mainframe systems to offer a rich, fully-functional mobile experience—at the speed of mobile.
Hard to believe?
The technology is available right now to allow a mobile app to be developed in a matter of days that can simply and securely access mainframe systems. Regardless of whether this is IBM Customer Information Control System (CICS), Information Management System (IMS), WebSphere Application Server, DB2 or a batch system, technologies such as IBM Worklight and WebSphere Liberty z/OS Connect provide state-of-the-art and standards-based facilities to unlock these core systems in days.
To show how easy this is to do, IBM has unleashed a global challenge for organizations to create a new mobile app that accesses in-house System z applications or data—in days, not weeks.
Let the contest begin
The Mainframe Mobile App Throwdown was announced at the SHARE conference in Pittsburgh in the first week of August. With the contest officially opening on August 11, the registrations have been flowing in over the past few days. To have a chance at winning the contest you need to take three simple steps:
That’s it. Provided that you can get this back to us by September 17, you’ll be entered into the throwdown, with a chance of winning prizes including Apple iPads, free tickets to the Enterprise2014 conference in Las Vegas and free consulting with IBM mobile experts to help turn your brilliant demo apps into a production reality.
Feeling up to the challenge? You can register right here.
Got an idea, but unsure where to start?
There are millions of ideas out there that can grow into something truly innovative; the trick is knowing where to start. To help kick-start your mobile-app building ideas, we’ve created a site full of how-to videos, getting started guides, demos, solution guides, IBM Redbooks and discussion forums to ease you along the way. And, if in doubt, use the site to call on one of our IBM System z mobile experts to share your ideas and pick their brains on how best to put them into practice.
You can find all of this information and more right here in the Mainframe Mobile App Throwdown developerWorks community.
