VNC installation mode is one of the option to GUI based installation of RHEL operating System on Power System. The Anaconda installation program has two modes for VNC installation.
1. Direct Mode: In this mode, Anaconda is configured to start the installation and wait for a VNC viewer before proceeding. The IP address and port are displayed on the system being installed.
2. Connect Mode: In this mode, the VNC viewer is started on the remote system in listening mode. The VNC viewer waits for an incoming connection on a specified port.
I am going to use Direct Mode to initiate a VNC connection to the system being installed.
To boot the installation system and wait for the boot menu to appear. In the menu, press the E key to edit boot options:
Press Tab key to select OK and then Press Enter to start the installation. The system initializes the installation program and starts the necessary services. When the system is ready, we get a message on the screen similar to the following:
Note the IP address and port number (in the above example, 172.23.136.147:1).
Now I am going to run the VNC viewer on my laptop. A window similar to , as below:
Now, we can continue the OS installation using the VNC Session.
