IBM Software Universe @ Mumbai this week (November 9th) saw several customers and business partners of IBM come together to learn about cutting-edge software strategies and Innovative best practices. The solutions showcase had several demos focusing on different industry verticals.
Here are a few sessions that caught my attention during the event:
Keynote by Steve Mills - Fascinating presentation on Smarter Planet. It was an eye-opener on various business problems that technology has solved.
City One Game - A Smarter Planet Game, played by the several participants, show-cased how to solve real-world business problems and also how technology can revolutionize industries
Smart Truck Demo - Move from infrastructure visibility to Supply Chain Visibility with integrating the data from sensors on a truck with enterprise. Here are some photos I took:
Demo from our team:
Infrastructure and Enterprise integration for Smarter Energy - A demo for the Energy and Utilities Industry. Key features for the demo:
- Enabling granular level monitoring and control of devices (like Sensors) from Enterprise
- Real time Energy management and analytics to enable intelligent decision making
- Integration of existing energy infrastructure with IBM's enterprise software
- Smarter use of Energy in a instrumented and interconnected world
From a implementation perspective, WebSphere Message Broker forms ESB enabling data from sensors to be routed to WebSphere iLog JRules and other web services. MQTT is used as core protocol for talking to sensors and PDAs. Here is the message flow: MQTT message generated by the temperature, humidity and light sensor-> Sent to WebSphere MQ Telemetry -> WebSphere Message Broker (WMB) for routing and transformation -> Access a Web Service running on WebSphere Application Server for calculating heat index -> Send to iLog JRules running in WebSphere Application Server CE as WebService from WMB flow -> iLog will validate if the environment is danger environment or extreme danger environment -> iLog result sent to the field used using a mobile with Lotus Expeditor as an alert.
