Financial Institutions Use CPLEX On Mainframe To Manage Risks And Improve Efficiency

Last year we announced the availability of our CPLEX mathematical solver on IBM mainframes called z Enterprise. Since then we have seen financial institutions use it in various ways. This article by my colleagues Aimee Emery-Ortiz, Ferenc Katai, and Sofiane Oussedik review some of these use cases.
The paper provides some insights on how CPLEX can be used on mainframe to address banking and finance IT challenges. Not only some business operations need to be optimized, but this has to be done while maintaining customer data security, scalability, and performance.
Think about it. These mainframes are the backbone of the world finance and banking system. Your banking transactions, my banking transactions, most financial transactions, are handled by applications running on such mainframes. There is no way one can accept any risk of breaching security or slowing down transaction processing. This is why we decided to do a native port of CPLEX for IBM mainframes as it was the only way to provide optimization capability while leveraging the extremely high level of security and availability of the mainframe environment.
This is bringing optimization to new areas.
