The Future of Visual Basic

In my pre-IBM life the vast majority of development work I did was Visual Basic based. While not as powerful as other programming languages, VB was a very nice environment to work in. Because of my affinity for it, I've been watching the recent discussions regarding VB's continued support with much interest. Today, while catching up on the latest news a thought struck me: Microsoft should open source the VB6 platform. Let the existing VB community take it where they want it. Doing so would likely be a huge PR boost and would likely make all those loyal VB developers quite happy.
