When I'm not slaving away at writing code, I can typically be found either playing games or trying to invent new ones. Two of the game ideas I've come up with recently are described here and here.
The Game of Symbols is a unqiue card game in which players score points by laying down specific symbol pairs. The key twist in the game is that there is no single standard deck of cards used as in traditional poker. Different decks with different symbol counts and distributions of symbols may be used, adding a degree of difficulty to the game because the odds of scoring any single pair vary from deck to deck.
The Game of Ministers and Assassins is an abstract strategy board game in which players attempt to out move their opponents and win either by invading their space, or surrounding or assassinating their Minister. Game play is very similar to Chess with the exception that no pieces ever leave the board.
