CMMS, EAM, APM…..OMG! Making sense of the asset management spectrum byBruce D Baron
One of the most important decisions that an asset-intensive industry has is how to manage and care for its assets (i.e. equipment, buildings, and machinery). This is a decision that affects everyone in the organization, from the operators, to the engineers and the C-suite. There are many theories – some dating as far back as the Roman Chariot – on how we get the maximum out of the machines in our organization. The solution, however, will be different depending on the needs of the business and how each uses their assets. In this post, we will explore the full asset management spectrum and how to make the right choice for your organization. [Read more…]
MIT Technology Review: Watson IoT and NASA - Listen to Tracy Van Houten from NASA Jet Propulsion Lab discuss the Mars 2020 project, IoT, design, and working with Watson IoT. Tracy talks about using DOORS Next Generation as their main collaborative design hub for all design information.
Developers, what happens when you design for “system of systems”?
How many of us grasp just how connected we’re becoming? The concept of the “connected world” has enormous – and transformational – implications. Because not only are individual things becoming more connected, each “thing” is often part of a larger system: a system of systems (SoS). [Read more…]
Continuous Engineering and Collaborative Lifecycle Management 6.0.6 is now available!
This release continues to help teams engineer, deliver, and maintain the smart and connected products and systems that contribute to an industrial Internet of Things (IoT) and that drive innovation and productivity in our societies.
Similar to previous releases, version 6.0.6 focuses on these themes:
Business-driven development with agile planning and coordination at the team, project, program, and portfolio levels
Design and development for complex systems, including global configurations to manage versions and variants and promote a high level of engineering reuse
Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) with models as first-class participants in the development lifecycle
Traceability and auditability for compliance
Enterprise scale and security
Greater simplicity for practitioners and administrators
Highlighting some of the many enhancements in the new IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation 6.0.6 release:
In this release, you can copy artifacts across components from a folder to a folder, from a folder to a module, and from a module to a module. When you paste artifacts into the target component, you can create back links for traceability purposes and specify mappings between the component type systems. You can also drag and drop artifacts to copy them across components.
Differentiating module artifacts from base artifacts
To further differentiate module artifacts from base artifacts, you can now specify a common folder for module content folders. The common folder organizes base artifacts in a hierarchy under a single folder, which can help you identify module artifacts from base artifacts and which can help you focus on module data.
Supply chain with a mix of DOORS and DOORS Next Generation
Removes the ReqIF restriction of data, crossing a mixed supply chain of IBM Rational DOORS and DOORS Next Generation where DOORS Next Generation is the original host.
This release includes several usability improvements, including drag-and-drop support for moving folders, visual indicators for non-editable cells, and the ability to rename a review on the Reviews page.
New videos are available for the latest 6.0.6 version of IBM Rational Publishing Engine.
RPE: Live Document Preview - Document Studio now includes a live Preview view, where you can see the output as you design the template in the template editor, without having to manually generate the document and open it. You can quickly verify the output with live or cached data, which is especially helpful when you are debugging a template or working with scripts. This video was recorded using IBM Rational Publishing Engine version 6.0.6. For more information, see Previewing a document.
Many large-scale IoT solutions require the use of long-range wireless networking to communicate among the sensors, gateways, the cloud, and any IoT apps that make up the IoT solution. These large-scale IoT solutions take advantage of edge computing (or fog computing, as some people call it). Learn more in the following IoT on the edge 3-part series of articles.
