The service virtualization space has come of age in Forrester’s new report, “The Forrester Wave™: Service Virtualization And Testing Solutions, Q1, 2014.” Forrester’s first report on this emerging technology highlights many of the key messages that IBM has been evangelizing since our acquisition of Green Hat two years ago. It also underscores that IBM is a leader in this market with a huge amount of momentum on our side.
IBM has made significant strides in service virtualization since the first release of IBM Rational Test Workbench and IBM Rational Test Virtualization Server were announced at Innovate 2013. In Forrester’s recent report, IBM has been named a leader in several key areas.
This report evaluated 15 metrics related to three key criteria: current offering, strategy, and market presence. IBM demonstrated a strong performance across all three categories, with the highest marks among the leaders in the following areas:
A comprehensive end-to-end DevOps and ALM testing integration tools strategy
Strong test lab provisioning
Strong market momentum
Forrester also underscores the significant return on investment that companies can achieve by implementing service virtualization as part of a holistic DevOps approach and identifies it as a strategic investment area for companies that are looking to accelerate their software delivery.
According to the Forrester report:
“IBM supports continuous testing throughout the life cycle. IBM also focuses on DevOps, but employs a broader end-to-end approach, with a strong cloud commitment, that it refers to as “continuous testing.” In fact, RTVS is a core element of a broader testing suite that includes TDM, performance testing, and test management tools to support a continuous testing strategy.”
“SVT tools have been gaining significant momentum in the past 12 months. Companies can easily realize financially quantifiable quick wins: shorter test times, increased productivity, and better production quality. More strategically, companies building and continuously delivering modern applications are increasingly interested in SVT adoption.”
I also encourage you to read the Forrester study “The Total Economic Impact™of IBM Rational Service Virtualization and Test Automation Solutions” that was published in July, 2013. Forrester calculated that a major European bank saved more than $6 million over three years with IBM Service Virtualization and Test Automation Solutions.
Please spread the word about the Forrester research with your testing colleagues so they can explore the impact service virtualization can have in their environments.
