DevOps and cloud: Video series Part 3 – Build and deploy
In this “DevOps and cloud” video series we explain the notion of a DevOps continuous delivery pipeline and its relationship to cloud technology. As indicated in my introduction we have split the DevOps end-to-end scenario into seven distinct sections, each one aligned with a specific part of the overall flow captured in a video.
This third video focuses on the integration of the continuous integration and build systems and the deployment automation system. It shows how the build system pushes the artifacts into the deployment system before automatically deploying the application components into the cloud environment.
The following diagram reflects the parts of the end-to-end scenario that are covered in this section:
In the previous video you saw how the developer started his personal build.
In this video we focus on the build process and definition itself, specifically its relation to the deployment automation system. The artifacts (being produced by the build process) are pushed into IBM
As a proof point we also show the claiming application in its new version and demonstrate that the change request has been successfully conducted.
The next video, Part 4, will explain the key concepts of IBM UrbanCode Deploy as the central deployment automation solution in some detail in order to help you understand the overall flow. You’ll also find callouts inside the video to help explain what you see.
