Delivering with DevOps: From Ideas to Production
GE Capital has a vision: to responsibly move at market speed. The challenge is remaining secure, compliant and managing quality standards while moving quickly enough to stay ahead of the competition. Snehal Antani, CIO of CDF & EA at GE Capital, took to the stage during the DevOps keynote to tell how GE had leveraged DevOps to attain their goals.
He echoed what is already becoming a common DevOps theme at Innovate: It’s about people, the shift required to become lean and agile requires a commitment from people. How is GE transforming? By elevating those eager to transform into positions of visibility and leadership so the naysayers can follow. It’s clear that the shift left is not easy, but it is worthwhile.
A strong IT foundation, and the right culture, allow GE Capital to operate with the sure footing of a well established player and the agility of a startup.
After hearing the opening presentation, Sal Vella who leads product development, product management and customer support for IBM Rational proposed that the keynote needed to be retitled from “DevOps Delivers @ Speed” to “Our Client Built an Award-Winning Bank from Scratch in Weeks”.
The real fun was watching a live demo of BlueMix and DevOps Services. Scott Rich, Dan Berg and Rosalind Radcliffe took to the stage for a live look of DevOps in action. BlueMix enabled the team to identify a problem with their mobile app based on customer feedback, easily address the problem and deploy a fix in a matter of minutes. The result of DevOps with BlueMix is an open, integrated rapid development experience that scales.
