Announcing Rational Developer for System z V9.0.1 and the new Integrated Debugger
Today is a special day for System z development. I wanted to let you know that we just announced Rational Developer for System z V9.0.1, which is available on Dec. 11th. Rational Developer for System z (RDz) V9.0.1 provides numerous new and enhanced capabilities, including full edit, compile, debug, and code coverage capabilities for key languages and subsystems that are ready for immediate use. The exciting new feature in RDz V9.0.1 is the Integrated Debugger. It is a powerful, modern, GUI-based multiplatform, multi-language source level debugger that enables the user to step through the program being debugged, monitor and modify variables, set breakpoints during or before a debug session, and inspect program memory. In addition to providing debug support for COBOL batch, batch IMS, batch DB2 and CICS, the debugger requires only a small mainframe footprint due to a ground-breaking host-offload architecture. As a result of this new architecture, the debugger leverages the workstation CPU, which enables faster processing of the debug information. It also supports debugging code that is compiled with the latest optimizing COBOL 5.1 compiler, and is enabled for 64-bit debugging. RDz's interactive code coverage capability, which we introduced several years ago, enables users to measure and report on the amount of test coverage of an application. In RDz v9.0.1, this interactive code coverage feature leverages the new Integrated Debugger, so no additional prerequisite is required to take advantage of this advanced RDz functionality.
In addition to the new debugger, RDz v9.0.1 provides many enhancements requested by customers, as well as improvements to the Rational Team Concert integrated interfaces, and to the JES interfaces. New enhancements were added to the editors, and Enterprise Service Tools IMS Top-down support. The RDz Code review feature was enhanced with new PL/I code rules.
Rational Developer for System z V9.0.1, with its best in class application development features including code understanding, quality analysis, automated testing, code coverage analysis, and new integrated debugger, together with the IBM Problem Determination tools, provides a compelling ROI for our customers. In concert with RDz, the highly functional Fault Analyzer for application abend analysis, and File Manager for data management capabilities, provide customers a powerful cost-effective set of tools for improving programmer productivity as well as improving application delivery throughout the DevOps lifecycle. Our beta customers have been pleased with the new functionality, and we invite you to test drive RDz V9.0.1 to see how it can increase your productivity.
