Words of wisdom from a few of the scaled agile “experts” at Interconnect 2017
Did you miss the IBM Interconnect 2017 conference this year? If you did, you missed some great presentations from real practitioners about how they are transforming their organizations by adopting lean and agile practices at scale so they can be better, stronger, faster. But don’t worry, Alan Shimel from DevOps.com sat down with a couple of these “experts” and you can watch their interviews on DevOpsTV.
First, Igal Levi from NICE Actimize. In his interview, he explained his organization’s need for change that began about 18 months ago. Driven by typical needs like speeding time to market and improving overall quality, they embarked on a journey – still continuing to this day – to transform their culture and evolve into a lean and agile development organization by adopting the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) and using IBM’s Rational Team Concert with built-in SAFe capabilities to do it.
Watch Igal talk about their experiences -- how they did it, why they did it, and how they are proving success.
Next up is Marcus Giacomuzzi, a seasoned IBM conference speaker and colleague of mine in the scaled agile space. Marcus talks about his organization’s evolution at Siemens to apply lean and agile in a systems engineering organization with loads of complexity and moving parts as well as distributed teams. The choice to adopt the SAFe framework and deploy tools that support that methodology was not an option, but an imperative. They are not fully SAFe – I’m not sure any organization is – but they are on their way and supplementing out of the box capabilities in IBM’s Rational Team Concert with some homegrown innovations that they willingly share for free.
In fact, NICE Actimize is using this widget in their SAFe-based production environment today!
Finally, you can watch my interview to hear about a mock PI planning workshop that my team lead where a group of attendees and IBMers took on roles and mimicked some of the activities from a PI planning session prescribed by SAFe. It was great fun for my team – and I hope a good learning experience for all.
As an IBMer devoted to our scaled agile strategy and delivering great features to support it in the IBM Collaborative Lifecycle Management and Continuous Engineering solutions, this is my greatest reward – to meet real customers doing real work with our solutions and then talking about it! Thank you to Igal and Marcus for sharing their stories.
And if you are interested in learning more about the things they discussed, please visit our SAFe landing page on jazz.net for all things “SAFe”! We are here to help you with your scaled agile transformation (SAFe or not), so don’t hesitate to reach out.
