Shift-left and flow with Application Delivery Foundation for z Systems summer delivery
We are excited to announce our latest Application Delivery Foundation for z Systems (ADFz) 3.1.1 Continuous Delivery (CD) update. Our goal is to deliver tools that empower development teams to get their work done quickly and easily, and we believe this release furthers that goal.
In this update, we've enhanced capabilities that are increasingly critical to our users: Shift-Left testing, developer task automation, and SCM integration. Below you'll learn more about how we've improved our tools to address these needs, and links to deeper-dives written by our experts.
Updates to IBM Developer for z Systems Enterprise Edition (IDzEE) V14.1.3
Shift-left testing capabilities
By testing early and often, teams can discover and resolve bugs more quickly, saving time and money in doing so. To do this effectively, developers need comprehensive tools that allow them to quickly generate test cases, as well as provision personalized test environments. With the IDzEE V14.1.3 release, developers can do just that.
In this latest release, users can now record input and output data for a COBOL program and its subprograms, and then generate a zUnit test case using the data. This capability allows developers to rapidly generate test cases using large and/or complex data areas, meaning developers save more time while testing.
Additionally, this release introduces integration with IBM Z Development and Test Environment (ZD&T), allowing developers to provision personalized test environments within IDz. Developers can simply select a defined ZD&T image and quickly provision an instance, and then IDz automatically provides a connection to the instance. This improvement removes the need for manual provisioning in ZD&T, as well as manual connection creation from IDz to an instance.

Developer task automation
Research shows context switching results in low quality work, increase in mental fatigue, and an overall loss of focus. Developers want to get into a "flow state," wherein their tasks are automated and interruptions are reduced. To that end, we've made steps forward in allowing developers to automate tasks and avoid context switching. For example, we've enhanced the z/OS File System Mapping feature to help users automatically map members to a File Type. This removes a manual and non-intuitive task, enabling developers to work without obstructions. Additionally, this release provides improvements for Remote z/OS File Search, which offers searching capabilities similar to Search-For utility in ISPF. This improvement helps onboard previous ISPF users more easily, and allow for more focused development. Each of these improvements work to reduce context switching, boost productivity, and promote high quality work.
SCM integration enhancements
IDzEE V14.1.3 also provides enhancements in integrations with IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC), including improved performance of RTC user builds. Additionally, this release introduces updates to IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB). DBB's latest release adds additional capability for running JCL as part of the build process by providing a new JCLEXEC capability. IBM Debug for z Systems updates
This release introduces many new enhancements and updates to IBM Debug for z Systems, including: additional options for IMS Transaction Isolation, support for Swift, z/OS Debugger Code Coverage, and more. Read about the updates here.
Updates to IBM File Manager for z/OS (FM) V14.1.3
This release introduces several enhancements to IBM File Manager, including: an extended Service Provider for z/OS Connect feature, enhanced File Manager templates that support redefines criteria, and an enhanced change command. Updates to IBM Fault Analyzer for z/OS (FA) V14.1.3
This release also offers updates to IBM Fault Analyzer, including an added flip-flop menu bar item in the CICS 3270 display. This allows users to swap between HEX and non-HEX display. Additionally, this update provides a NOTE command within interactive reanalysis reports, along with enhanced NOTE command use cases. You can read more about updates to IBM Fault Analyzer here.
