More great work between IBM and their partner ecosystem. I posted an earlier blog entry about Sametime and Government Partner UnifiedEdge going to the Superbowl. Today IBM will announce that Ft. Worth and Tarrant County will adopt the UnifiedEdge + IBM solution to allow police, firefighters, healthcare providers and officials to share radio communication, text messaging and files on the fly.
I had the opportunity to visit the Fort Worth Emergency Response Center a few months back. The team there graciously agreed to give us a tour and to show us how RadioConnect helped them to maintain situational awareness and to foster group communications.
Imagine needing to coordinate up to 40 different agencies (each with their own communications equipment and protocol) in the midst of an unfolding situation. City officials need to be briefed. Rescue may need to be dispatched. Water services, roads, hospitals, the power company all may play a role. Now imagine that you need to send information between these groups. Do you swap email addresses? Phone numbers? What happens when the shift changes and John Doe at Fire and Rescure has gone home for the night. Hwo is his replacement? And how do you reach them?
All good questions that you don't want to answer in an emergency.

Great opportunity for the Government ecosystem to learn more about the power of analytics.
The IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) surveyed over 100 public sector leaders, from governmental organizations, non-profit, and non-government organizations worldwide to help organizations understand the opportunity to leverage the information explosion for better decisions and actions relevant to the public sector context. On May 17th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT, we will host a virtual event to review the study results and learn how other government leaders are using analytics to achieve and/or influence outcomes in their organizations.

Great achievement for our first specialty partner, VirtualAgility. They have been selected as a finalist in the inaugural New England CIO Innovation Awards. The award recognizes those New England CIOs who exemplify excellence in driving innovation within their organization through the use of technology. The awards will be presented to chief information officers in five New England organizations during the inaugural New England CIO Innovation Summit, a one-day June conference focused on innovative use of information technology.
Congratulations to VirtualAgility!

There is a great new podcast that has just been added to The Channel Happy Hour (http://channelhh.com/). In it Mike Riegel, Vice President Marketing, ISV and Developer Relations, discusses the channel opportunities around the IBM growth plays of Smarter Planet, Growth Markets, Cloud Computing and Business Analytics. Mike also addresses the new IBM Cloud Computing Specialty and IBM Industry Solution Specialty programs, highlighting ISV relationships in various industries. Among those mentioned was our own VirtualAgility, the first IBM business partner to receive the IBM Industry Solution Specialty designation. The Specialty is based on the Industry Framework construct and identifies partners who have industry framework validated solutions, revenue from both software and hardware and customer references.

Among all of the interesting bits of information from Lotusphere came word that Government Partner UnifiedEdge would be helping to keep the 100,000+ fans packed into Cowboys Stadium safe and secure during Super Bowl XLV
It turns out that we do, in fact, have an app for that.
