Guest Post By Joseph Perry, Manager, IBM Innovation Center Cambridge
For nearly 100 years (since 1914), IBM has had a significant presence in Massachusetts. The largest IBM software development lab in North America is currently located in Littleton, Massachusetts. Additionally, IBM has acquired a number of Massachusetts-based companies, including Lotus and Unica and most recently Ounce Labs, Kenexa and Trusteer.
I am proud to announce today that IBM is enhancing its Massachusetts presence with a new IBM Client Center in Cambridge. IBM's facility at One Rogers Street in Cambridge has been renovated and transformed into a state of the art Client Center with space to accommodate large and small events, technology trainings, and a data lab that supports IBM's newest technology.
IBM's Massachusetts based ecosystem of business partners, clients, academics, entrepreneurs, developers and venture capitalist will now have access to a variety of IBM experts under one roof in Cambridge, including:
At the IBM Client Center Cambridge, visitors will have access to skill building resources and trainings in key technology areas such as cloud, mobile, social. big data, analytics, cognitive computing and so much more. For example, the center recently hosted a “Big Data & Analytics” day with multiple hands-on workshops to help developers enhance their Big Data and analytics skills. More than 100 developers attended classes to gain new skills in IBM BigInsights, Cognos, SPSS and get certified in these technologies.
The facility will also bring together influencers from different industries and areas of expertise to discuss the changing role of technology in business and society. For example, on Dec. 3, which is the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, IBM and the University of Massachusetts Boston will co-host an accessibility summit exploring the importance of technology accessibility for people with disabilities.
The new IBM Client Center in Cambridge stands as a firm symbol of IBM's commitment to expand its Massachusetts based ecosystem and drive local innovation. Additionally, we are hopeful that the centers' proximity to Boston, leading academic institutions, a multitude of IT Companies and businesses, as well as over 20 venture capital firms, startup accelerators and incubators will open many new doors for networking and partnership opportunity.
