Dassault Systemes ENOVIA brand is a foundation for the 3D Experience Platform (V6). Each V6 implementation requires a relational database. DB2 advantages include lower total cost of acquisition, lower database maintenance costs, especially when virtualization and sub-capacity licensing are used, lower staff workloads and scalability.
Business Rationale for DB2 over Oracle
The cost savings for DB2 come because DB2 uses less memory, storage and computing time from adaptive compression and faster index performance. Reduced administration is because of DB2 automatic maintenance, storage optimization, faster backup, self-tuning and self healing. DB2 has better scale-out efficiency, superior system reliability and faster set up for high availability. Because ENOVIA is compute intensive and many customers have multiple environments (i.e. development, test, production), DB2 is needed on a subset of the cores so DB2 sub-capacity licensing can significantly reduce total cost of acquisition (TCA) compared to Oracle.
The purpose of this article and videos is to provide the concet and technical realization of a non-IBM database management system (DBMS) to DB2 migration in an ENOVIA V5 and ENOVIA V6 environment. It addresses business and technology, leading to compelling decision making and solution design, as well as consultants and developers for the technical implementation. Looking specifically at the Dassault Systemes solutions, the purpose of these best practices videos is to explain the concept and ease of technical work to switch databases from Oracle to DB2 for the ENOVIA V5 and ENOVIA V6 environments. Migration from a non-IBM database management system to DB2 is easier and faster because ENOVIA V5 and V6 are architected to run on several databases thus not exploiting database side code or unique functions.
In addition, you can also port an Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server from an ENOVIA V5 environment directly through an ENOVIA V6 solution migration with DB2.
Converting an ENOVIA V6 implementation from Oracle to DB2
Learn how to convert a Dassault Systemes ENOVIA V6 Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) implementation from an Oracle database to a DB2 database. This video shows you how to convert your ENOVIA V6 system to DB2 from Oracle. With ENOVIA V62013x and V62014x, , these DB2 versions are supported: DB2 9.7 / DB2 10.1 and DB2 10.5.,. Converting an ENOVIA V5 implementation from Oracle to DB2
Learn how to convert a Dassault Systemes ENOVIA V5 SMARTEAM implementation from an Oracle database to a DB2 database. This video shows you how to use a drag and drop approach to simply and accurately convert your ENOVIA SMARTEAM V5 system to DB2 with the recommended parameters already defined.
These videos do not cover customers‘ own developed database side coding conversion.
Due to the fact, that ENOVIA V5 / V6 does not use any database side application code and no database vendor specific features and functions, a non-IBM database management system (DBMS) to DB2 migration in an ENOVIA V5 and ENOVIA V6 environment is very easy and fast to accomplish. These videos show step by step the whole conversion from the DB2 database setup until migration completion and confirms the simplicity of such kind of port. These videos help you to reduce
