I want to invite you to join us on IBM developerWorks Answers (dwAnswers) - a Q&A forum where you can:
- Find answers to many known problems
- Ask questions and get relevant Answers
- Share your expertise about IBM products to earn reputation points and badges
It is at https://developer.ibm.com/answers/topics/ilmt.html
You might have noticed that support staff for ILMT, along with those for IBM products like BigFix Inventory and BigFix Platform, have been posting about known problems and solutions in Q&A format at dW Answers. Support representatives post on dW Answers when they learn something from working on a problem that they think will help other clients. Their goals are to help you avoid having to troubleshoot the same problems, and to be proactive in sharing information that will help you effectively use IBM software.
You can do searches from within dW Answers https://developer.ibm.com/answers/ but you also are able to find the answers posted in dW Answers simply by using your preferred search engine.
Here's how to participate: Register for dW Answers by registering for IBM developerWorks with your IBMid. When you are signed into dW Answers you can Ask a question and receive answers from the community of users (many of whom are IBMers). To help your question to be noticed and answered more quickly, make sure that you include the primary tag associated with the product you are asking the question about. For example, if your question is related to IBM License Metric Tool, include the "ILMT" tag in the Tags field. You also can begin typing a term in the Tags field and then select what is suitable from the "Suggested tags" that dW Answers displays.
After you ask a question and it gets answered, remember to Accept the answer if you think it is correct. That way, other users of the community are more likely to have confidence in the answer. Typically, it will be the person who asked the question that will accept it. However, dW Answers Moderators might accept answers to questions when they they know the answers are correct. Registered dW Answers users can also like or unlike any question or answer by clicking on Like or Unlike under the post. This is another way of helping other users know if the answer is a good one.
We encourage you to share your expertise. To do this, click Post Answer after typing your response to questions from others in the community. Also, you can Comment on questions and answers. As a dW Answer user, you will earn reputation points and badges when your questions and answers are flagged as good. When your questions and answers are voted up (liked), you earn 15 points and when your answer is accepted you earn 20 points. So, you can easily become known as an expert on a topic. You also can label yourself as a subject matter expert manually by adding tags in the Expertise settings tab of My Preferences. (You get to My Preferences by hovering over your screen name in the upper right corner of dW Answers.) If you have a good question and answer that you know is correct and others would benefit from it, you can post both the question and answer, and Accept your own answer. Then if others agree and "like" your question and/or answer, you will earn additional reputation points.
To increase the chances of others finding your dW Answers post, include in the Question and Details fields those terms and phrases that you think people will use in searches. If you need to make changes to your post, you can click on the wheel to the right of the question or answer then click Edit. Note that Moderators of dW Answers could add tags to your posts to increase the likelihood that others will find it.
dW Answers makes it easy to view content in different ways. For example, you can view the Newest posts tagged with ILMT on dW Answers or ILMT posts with the most Likes on dW Answers. From any question with the ILMT tag, you can click on the tag then click +Follow to be notified by email as activity around the topic occurs. You define the email notifications that you want and the frequency by setting up My preferences. You can also subscribe to a post's Answers or Answers and comments by the RSS feed option.
The most recent enhancement to dW Answers is that it has enabled its users to ask externally-visible questions about Support documents, and community members can answer them! Check out the "Community questions and discussion" area at the bottom of technotes and APARs. Learn more by watching this video: Join the Community Discussion!
