You have likely tried nearly all of them and more frequently use several of the popular social media options out there today for keeping in tune and in touch with the world. It's fun to be able to throw in all the buttons for your different apps in your email or on your own blog or web-site. I saw an email closing this week (like the picture below) that had OVER 20!! different logos all strung together.
I’ve used the acronym CXO a lot in my career to talk about groups of business leaders.
But, #CXO is a new one for me – Customer Experience Optimization.
A big part of the mission for the Austin IBM Innovation Center is to continue working with local software companies by helping them get their experience and innovation in the hands of the businesses around the world. One of the most import ways to do that these days is by taking advantage of #BigData and #Analytics.
Each time I represent IBM at a startup ecosystem focused event in Austin, most recently the TiE Organization event during Austin Startup Week , I am approached by companies that want to partner with us.
That is a wonderful thing considering IBM has a whole organization, IBM Global Entrepreneur #IBMGE, pointed at recruiting and progressing software startups with enterprise solutions!
Unfortunately, most of these entrepreneurs begin the partnership conversation by telling me how cool their... [More]
So what is the big deal about Big Data? Of course, the answer is that it's big – 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated every day from social media, sensors, and other sources. Understanding Big Data could mean billions of dollars saved - or it could be used to used to figure out "who's leaving the lights on?", but companies are struggling to find ways to make sense of and derive insight from this torrent of information.
The IT industry is responding by developing computational accelerators and... [More]
You gotta love the “why” kids.
We all know them and many of us have them in our own houses – I do. They won’t rest when you have graciously shared (sometimes declared) good answers based on your decades of learning and life experience. They always want to know more and definitely want to know “why”.
They have the makings of great Chief Analytics Officers some day.
Today, developing and applying new algorithms and technology can make... [More]
I've heard it again and again, "Technology needs women!"
The Austin American Statesman asked Can Austin become tech magnet for women? , in a recent article, describing how only "3% of tech startups are formed by women". Austin, which prides itself as an entrepreneurial tech hub, can and certainly will do better. In my role as the Planning and Delivery Manager for the IBM Innovation Center in Austin, I've personally seen efforts, both within IBM and the larger... [More]
You’ve heard the buzz around big data & analytics, cloud, mobile and social. In IBMs 2014 Business Tech Trends study we learned that pacesetting companies are 7 times more likely than dabblers (those behind in adopting those new technologies) to enhance communication & collaboration with big data & analytics. Pacesetters are also 6 times more likely to use big data & analytics to improve the customer experience. The Business Tech Trends study also gave us some very good news for startups: 70% of... [More]
Recently, I attended the Longhorn Startup Demo Day at the University of Texas. It was a great event that showcased the best #startups from mostly undergraduate students at UT Austin. Some of these newbie companies showed real promise. Their potential to solve problems and make disruptions in their respective marketplaces was tangible.
One company in particular, Austin Thermal , has created an IV warming apparatus that can be operated and controlled with a mobile device. And, their IV warming device is completely... [More]
In a world where big data, analytics, cloud, mobile and social are increasingly becoming the standard for businesses, winning companies strategically integrate these elements to enhance or even change course to set the pace. Through the Business Tech Trends (BTT) study, the IBM Center for Applied Insights found that big data and analytics, cloud, mobile and social are now used by 70 percent of enterprises which is a huge jump from the 2012 study, “Fast track to the future” where we learned only 50 percent adopted analytics and... ... and I'm not just talking about Jeopardy .
IBM announced last week that it will be opening #Watson as a #Cloud based development platform for our partners. Watson will no doubt spur innovation and fuel a new ecosystem of entrepreneurial software providers. These creative thinkers will usher in a new generation of technologies infused with Watson's cognitive computing intelligence through natural language comprehension.
I can't think of anything more exciting that the limitless possibilities... [More]
Did you know that women in STEM jobs earned 33% more than comparable women in non-STEM jobs? Or that women represent 48% of the workforce but hold 24% of jobs in the STEM field?
Women In Technology International (WITI) and IBM are both committed to helping women become a greater part of the success and growth of our industry. With that, IBM and WITI are partnering together for the first ever WITI Virtual Hackathon!
