Should you remove in-place alters before upgrading or reverting?While removing in-place alters is not required before upgrading to Version 11.70, a best practice is to remove all in-place alters before upgrading. If you upgraded, created in-place alters in the new version, and must revert, you must ensure that the in-place ALTER operations are complete by running a dummy UPDATE statement against the table. If the reversion process does not complete successfully because of in-place ALTER operations:

More dynamically updatable configuration parameters for Informix 11.70.xC4For IBM® Informix® 11.70.xC4, you can update the following additional configuration parameters while the server is running by using the onmode
-wf or onmode -wm commands:
ALARMPROGRAM, AUTO_REPREPARE, BLOCKTIMEOUT, CKPTINTVL, DBSPACETEMP,
DEADLOCK_TIMEOUT, DEF_TABLE_LOCKMODE, DIRECTIVES, DRINTERVAL, DRTIMEOUT,
FILLFACTOR, LOGSIZE, LTAPEBLK, LTAPEDEV, LTAPESIZE, MSGPATH, ONDBSPACEDOWN,
OPTCOMPIND, RA_PAGES, SHMADD, STACKSIZE, SYSALARMPROGRAM, TAPEBLK, TAPEDEV,
