Have you ever worked with Backup and Recovery Tools for DB2 for z/OS and wondered what is the equivalent on DB2 for LUW?
With the announce of DB2 Recovery Expert V3.1 on June 7, we now have a complete set of backup and recovery tools for DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows. DB2 Advanced Recovery Solution is a term we use to talk about these 3 separate products: DB2 Merge Backup, DB2 Recovery Expert, High Performance Unload.
DB2 Recovery Expert helps customers with the more granular recovery needs in DB2 and also works as a log analysis tool to read active and archive db2 logs. Think about those times when you accidentally deleted a production table instead of a test table and you just wanted to get that back... Also think about a developer who ran his application last night and it deleted 1000 rows by accident... Use DB2 Recovery Expert to help you recover what you need and pinpoint mistakes to help generate UNDO SQL to put the database back the way it was before.
All this is pretty powerful stuff when you are a DBA and you need the 'advanced recovery' capability that is provided with these tools. If you want to find more about DB2 Recovery Expert refer to the main webpage:

Are your databases so large that it is too hard to take DB2 backups? Is the CPU usage that is being used to take these backups affecting your application processing?
IBM has just introduced the New DB2 Merge Backup for Linux, UNIX and Windows. This tool was announced at IDUG on May 3, and it allows DB2 customers to greatly reduce downtime, CPU consumption, DBA Labor and Risk during Recovery.
IBM DB2 Merge Backup combines incremental and delta backups with the latest full backup to create a new full and current backup without actually taking a new full backup and slowing down your production system. All this processing runs outside and independently of the current DB2 process. If a restore is later required, DB2 Merge Backup can help speed the recovery. Think about never having to take a full backup again...
Imagine a tool that allows backups strategies that have the lowest impact on production yet provides the necessary recovery assets when time is of the essence.
