We have a couple of great new features in the latest release of the Eclipse-based products (see the list in my last post) to help you get started. If you have ever opened a new product and you couldn't figure out what to do first, these features are for you!
The first feature is the new Task Launcher. We developed this in response to feedback from users like you about the Eclipse Welcome experience. This tabbed view highlights the key tasks that are available in each phase of the data management lifecycle, and using it, you can launch the initial context for each of the tasks. Simply click a task and get started! Additional help is available for each task so you can learn more as you go. User feedback on this new feature has been very positive so give it a try.
The other new feature is the Task Navigator, a new drop-down control that lets you switch easily between different types of tasks in the products. If you are the type of user who wears different hats and needs to switch back and forth often (for example, maybe you do some Java development, but also routine development or even some basic database administration) you can use the Task Navigator to make the perspective switch much easier. And if you close the Task Launcher, you can re-open it using the Task Navigator, as well!
