The IBM Software Defined Environments (SDE) team is working hard at an end-to-end infrastructure solution, and we were able to demo some great results at the Edge2014 conference held from May 19-23 in Las Vegas. During the conference, we were able to demonstrate some of the real-life SDE use cases that led the audiences to ask many insightful software-defined questions and brought huge excitement around this evolving technology. Fortunately, for those who were not able to attend the conference in person, I would like to highlight one of the very interesting demos that we showcased at Edge2014. This demo has four parts showing both current products and future direction for IBM SDE:
Extremely simple creation, monitoring and management of OpenStack-based clouds
Very productive deployment of application infrastructure patterns in OpenStack-based clouds, with a newly announced IBM UrbanCode Deploy with Patterns V6.1, where the same product allows easy deployment of the application into the infrastructure, and management of the life cycle of the application
Smart policy-based cloud operations with IBM Platform Resource Scheduler V2.2, where cloud providers can set and achieve performance, efficiency, and other objectives easily
High integration and advanced management of IBM's new Elastic Storage in OpenStack-based clouds
The demos generated a lot of buzz at Edge2014, and we are now working with customers interested in doing Proofs of Concept for their environments.
I encourage you to take a look at the Edge2014 IBM SDE demo video, that's now online, and see for yourself the great value-add that IBM is bringing to OpenStack-based clouds!
