Did you know that in 2016, we have almost 500 IBM Champions in 5 business areas and in 36 countries? Our IBM Champions are an amazing group and we thought you might like to get to know them a bit better. In the "Meet an IBM Champion" series, you will learn about the IBM Champions, what they're working on, what they think you might want to learn, and even how to do business with them. You may learn where to meet them or where you can access their expertise.
This special edition of Meet an IBM Champion showcases Bob Oesterlin, an IBM Champion for Cloud and a speaker at the upco
What do you do? I’m responsible for the storage and file systems that support the Nuance HPC Grids. These grids support multiple Nuance research and development efforts, with IBM Spectrum Scale being the key technology.
How did you become an IBM Champion? I learned about the IBM Champion Program from previous conferences. I ended up doing a self-nomination because I knew the most about my contributions to evangelizing IBM products and services.
What accomplishment are you most proud of in your work with IBM technology? I’m most proud of the multiple IBM Spectrum Scale environments that I’ve helped build at Nuance. Spectrum Scale gives me the ability to adapt our storage to the changing business needs and growth.
What will you be hoping to learn at Edge? What’s one thing everyone should be trying to learn while at Edge? I always like to catch up on the latest trends and directions of all the products. What’s the roadmap look like? It helps me plan for the future. I look forward to networking with my friends (old and new) – you always learn by talking to others and finding out the problems and solutions they have dealt with.
What are you speaking about at Edge? I have 4 sessions that I’m involved with, mostly talking about Spectrum Scale and Spectrum Control. The feature I’m most excited about is Spectrum Scale Transparent Cloud Tiering – I’ll be talking about that on Wednesday, along with Rob Basham from IBM. I’m honored to be a part of the Storage Keynote session, The Future of Storage in the Cloud and Cognitive Era.
How will you leverage your IT infrastructure so that you outthink the status quo and become an ‘architect of the future?’ Business needs change quickly and your infrastructure needs keep pace - integrate new technologies seamlessly, and grow non-disruptively. Invest only in those technologies that can adapt to a rapidly changing infrastructure.
Is there anything you'd like readers to know about your business or your work that we haven't covered? Nuance Communications is one of those companies that provides solutions that you don’t always know about. Chances are that you interact with Nuance everyday – from phones, cars, voice response systems, medical transcription – our technology is part of it.
What’s your favorite thing to do while in Vegas? Eat! You can’t beat Vegas for the wide variety of excellent dining choices. You’ll probably find me eating sushi at least a couple of times.
