Abstract

Clear up confusion about Process Control Date/Age of Docs field in Sessions

Body

On the support desk we're asked if purge or delete can run at the same time as processing is happening. The answer is... it depends!

When processing (Imports/Exports/Mailboxing) is occurring, there is heavy reliance on the database. (Inserts, Delete, Alter, etc)  Making it the wise choice to find an opening in the process window to allow purge maintenance to have free access to the tables.

Sometimes there is no open window!

In this case, it's important to know that the current day is considered Date/Age of Docs  = '0'. If the purge/delete is using a normal value of 14, 21, 30 days of retention than 0 days is not considered and there is no logical concern that new data will be removed.

On the other hand, if a problem arises and the desire IS TO delete the same day material... then using the Process Control Field of Date/Age of Docs = '0' is needed!

Date format: (YYYY/MM/DD format)

Zero ("0") indicates that all documents are purged, including today's documents.

One ("1") indicates that all documents except today's documents are purged, etc.
