Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Best practice for using replication software or a restore - Sterling Gentran:Server for iSeries

Body

For a simple restore of the system to another system, ensure that the program and data libraries get copied over (typically G3X6DTA and G3X6PGM).

There are certain files which should be excluded when implementing any type of replication software (mirroring software).  All of the Gentran work files (GT*) should be excluded, with the exception of these files: GT00PRL, GT00TBP, and GT00EMP.  Note that these 3 files must be copied over separately.

For Users running Sterling Gentran:Server for iSeries, version 3.5, the data areas which contain activation codes (EXTEND, ACTFTP, ACTSAP, ACTVIEW, ACTASCLU62) should be excluded to avoid license keys from being overwritten.

For more information, review "Clearing Temporary files" found in the Technical Reference Manual > Processing chapter, under "Common Questions".
