It seems that ONC is taking some privacy concepts developed by PHR vendors and apply them to the EHR world. They are running a pilot that would allow patients to specific which parts of their EHR records can be shared and exchanged with other healthcare providers. That essentially turns the EHR into a PCHR (Personally Controlled Health Record). If this is successful, it could have board implication on the future of PHRs and how healthcare providers could engage patients.
Also interesting is that patient education for "meaningful consent" is conducted over tablet devices. Using tablets for patient education is definitely a big trend in medicine today.
