Understanding IBM Daeja ViewONE license and upgrade with IBM ECM products

History of Daeja ViewONE

Initially Daeja Image Systems Ltd. produced and sold the Daeja ViewONE product independent of IBM. At that time both Daeja and other sellers would sell the Daeja licenses to end-users. Often clients would use the IBM Daeja ViewONE software to supplement their IBM ECM products. In Sept 2013 IBM acquired Daeja and the ViewONE product. IBM integrated the IBM Daeja ViewONE product into various IBM ECM products. In this discussion we will call these ECM products that incorporate the Daeja ViewONE product "host products" Some host products would then be sold with an option to include Daeja ViewONE while others embedded the Daeja ViewONE as a standard part of the product. All this is fairly straight ford but there are implications to this simple story.

Versions and Modules in Daeja ViewONE

There are three package versions of IBM Daeja ViewONE: Standard, Professional and Virtual.

When IBM ships Daeja ViewONE it is one release that has the various capabilities controlled by a license.

Modules and Optional Modules:

The Professional and Virtual versions of Daeja ViewONE have, at this time, these "Built-in Modules" which increase the capabilities of Daeja ViewONE product:

• ViewONE Annotations Module
• ViewONE Document Streaming Server Module
• ViewONE PDF Module
• ViewONE Print Accelerator Module.

The Professional and Virtual versions of Daeja ViewONE allow for additional optional capabilities via the enabling of various modules. If you purchase licenses for these modules then you can enable them on your system.

• ViewONE Permanent Redaction Server Module
• ViewONE Office Module
• ViewONE Universal Viewing Module

Again the modules are included in the release and need a license to enable the capabilities.

Which IBM ECM Products can have Daeja ViewONE embedded in them?

List of host products with embedded Daeja ViewONE available:

• IBM Workplace XT (Standard by default; Professional available as an option)
• IBM Content Navigator (ICN) - Daeja ViewONE (Professional or Virtual) embedded by default.
• IBM Datacap
• IBM FileNet Content Manager (Standard by default; Professional available as an option)
• IBM Production Imaging Edition (Professional by default)
• IBM Case Manager
• IBM Records Manager
• IBM Document Imaging

Build Method

IBM desires to ship the highest quality products to our clients. When IBM ECM builds a release by developing the code followed by a Quality Assurance phase. When an ECM host product integrates with Daeja ViewONE the latest available public release of Daeja ViewONE is used.  For each release of a host product QA has tested and verified that the two products, the host product and Daeja ViewONE, do play together. Therefore IBM only has one version of Daeja ViewONE that is integrated, tested and QA'ed for each specific version of a host product.

Where is my standalone license? I cannot download ViewONE!

If you find yourself in the situation where you cannot download the Daeja ViewONE product and you know you have a licensee for specifically Daeja ViewONE then you will need to contact IBM eCustomer Care and ask for assistance.

Where is my license? I bought an IBM ECM Product with Daeja ViewONE as an option

You bought IBM Content Navigator (ICN) or IBM Workplace XT or some other IBM ECM product with Daeja ViewONE as an option. You have a bug and it looks like it is in Daeja so you want to download Daeja ViewONE and install it. But Passport Advantage says you do not have a licensee for Daeja ViewONE. So why does IBM not entitle me to download Daeja ViewONE? The answer is twofold. One your license is for the host product. So you can download or upgrade your host product such as IBM Content Navigator or IBM Workplace XT. Downloading the host product will include the Daeja ViewONE product. But you cannot get Daeja ViewONE directly as a separate component because that is not what you bought. The second reason is that you cannot download and install Daeja ViewONE into your IBM host product because it may not be a tested and verified combination of products. So it is best to download and upgrade the host product which includes Daeja ViewONE capabilities.

I have a license for Daeja ViewONE so why not download and install it into my host products?

If you have a license for Daeja ViewONE and you can download it that is great. Continue to use it as you would normally with other products. However, if you download a version of Daeja ViewONE and use it with an IBM ECM Host product you will may end up with an unsupported combination of host and Daeja ViewONE products. This would place you in unsupported territory. If you need to upgrade and you have Daeja ViewONE as a licensed options in a host package then download and install the host package as a whole and complete package.

Support says to upgrade my Daeja ViewONE?

Occasionally IBM support may request that you upgrade just your Daeja ViewONE portion of a package, if this is the case then support will assist you with arrangements for obtaining the current Daeja ViewONE version for your product.

If you have a problem with IBM ECM Products then like any other IBM Product you should open a PMR and get assistance. The Support Engineers are familiar with the products and processes and can guide you to an accurate problem determination and determine a path toward resolution.

Getting Help - Not clear who at IBM can help

Contacting IBM eCustomer Care is a support group that can assist with license entitlement, site Id, IBM Customer Number and other logistic issues. Client Care can help with those "I fell off the tracks" issues. With respect to this issue of Daeja ViewONE the Client Care group can help with license issues and can help with situations when the standard processes are missing a step.
