This week I stumbled over an old friend of mine that I haven't met in a while. The good ole System error 0 during the installation of IID and UTE.
This error can occur during the installation of the IBM Integration Designer. Usually it is seen when the DB2 is installed.
The error message looks similar to this:
[17:06:42:445]: Product: IBM DB2 Express Edition - DB2COPY1 -- Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\IBM\IID\PS\v8.5\db2\samples\ole\msvb\invoice.exe. System error 0. Verify that you have access to that directory.
Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\IBM\IID\PS\v8.5\db2\samples\ole\msvb\invoice.exe. System error 0. Verify that you have access to that directory.
Action ended 17:06:42: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
As you can see the error message indicates to check that you have access to that directory. So first ensure that you have admin access to the directory and that you are perform the installation with administrative user rights.
If this is the case, check if a local firewall or anti-virus software is blocking the access to the filesystem.
In this recent case an anti-virus software was running and blocking the write access to the filesystem. Temporarily disabling the software during the time of the installation resolved the problem.
So if you see this error, check the following three things:
- Make sure you have admin access to the directory
- Run the installation with administrative rights
- Check if a firewall or anti-virus software is running and temporarily disable it
And if neither works, take two of these and call me in the morning.
